West Brom Nolan Galves blow as James Morrison confirms right-back's injury

The right-back hobbled out of Albion’s 1-0 victory at Derby County in midweek.

Albion right-back Nolan Galves is set for a “few months” on the sidelines due to the injury sustained in Wednesday’s thrilling success at Derby County.

The Frenchman has had a scan on the issue which has shown a problem with the meniscus, a cartilage in the knee.

Boss James Morrison expects Galves to be sidelined for a few months, though no more specific timescale was given. More tests are still to come in the weeks ahead.

It leaves the Baggies short in the right-back department. Brayann Pereira, the other French recruit in that position, was sent off in the first half of his debut at Derby in midweek and served a one-match ban in Saturday’s draw against QPR. Left-back Callum Styles was selected to play on the right and netted his side’s equaliser in a fine display.

“It's quite serious,” Morrison said of Galves after Saturday’s draw. “He's got some further tests this week, but I expect a few months out. (It's the) meniscus."

Galves was spotted at The Hawthorns supporting his team-mates with a brace on his knee and crutches.

He had been introduced after Pereira’s red card at Pride Park but departed injured shortly after the interval. Pereira is back available for Morrison’s for next weekend’s Black Country derby at Molineux.

Galves had impressed in the previous weekend’s 1-0 victory over Watford.

Morrison opted to use Styles in a more unfamiliar right-back role against the Rs and it was the Hungary international who struck a fine goal to equaliser after a Chris Mepham own goal, which earned the hosts a point.

“I liked the defensive line-up at the back end of the Derby game,” Morrison explained of his selection.

“He came up against a fast winger at Derby and he dealt with him, and with coming inside on his left foot he could cause problems.

“We had one day of video work on it but I thought he picked it up really well.

“I said to him ‘come inside onto your left foot and shoot’ and it was a great finish.

“He’s used to playing in midfield so he could come inside or he could stay wide.

“When he was younger he played as a winger and he’s played at wing back, so it was just about trying to get that balance right with Rabby Nzingoula (at right midfield). I thought they dealt with it really well.”
