West Brom interest in seven-cap international midfielder

Albion are looking to bolster James Morrison’s midfield options.

Albion are interested in a move for top Norwegian midfield talent Felix Horn Myhre.

The Baggies are eyeing the SK Brann 27-year-old to bolster head coach James Morrison’s midfield options ahead of the new Championship campaign, which begins in two-and-a-half weeks.

The Norway international, who has seven caps for his nation, is in-demand has also attracted the attention of clubs on the continent, namely La Liga outfit Elche in Spain.

But it is understood Albion are pursuing a move for Myhre, who is seen as one of the main midfield talents in the top flight Eliteserien.

It is claimed in Norway a bidding war is likely to kickstart for the midfielder’s services.

Myhre’s club, Brann, was the former home of Baggies striker Aune Heggebo, who Albion recruited in a £4.7million transfer 12 months ago.

The midfielder, who plays as a ‘number eight’ and is seen as very comfortable technically, was valued at £3.4m by his club last summer. That fee previously deterred Elche, but the asking price is likely to have been lowered since.

Myhre now has 18 months or so to run on his contract, which expires in December 2027. Norwegian table-toppers Bodo/Glimt and Brondby, of Denmark, have held interest.

The Brann star just missed out on his nation’s World Cup squad - which contained another former Baggie in Torbjorn Heggem and achieved a stunning run to the quarter-final before extra time defeat to England.

Creative midfielder Myhre has two goals in seven caps for Norway. He arrived at the club having previously been a right-back.

Brann are currently eighth in the Eliteserien, which runs through the calendar year, and face a huge Europa Conference League second round second leg qualifier against Universitatea Cluj of Romania on Thursday, with Myhre set to feature with the aggregate score 2-2.

The midfielder spoke to the midfielder in advance on Wednesday, but would not comment on transfer speculation.

Morrison’s natural senior central midfielder options are currently the experienced Alex Mowatt, who has been captain during pre-season, Jayson Molumby and Ousmane Diakite, who signed an extended contract this summer.
