Albion defender Steven Reid today dismissed pundits who tipped the Baggies for relegation and insisted the club are stronger than ever.
Steve Clarke's men were named as relegation candidates by several pundits including Sky's Matt Le Tissier and Talksport's Micky Quinn following the loss of Roy Hodgson at the end of last season.
But Albion, who finished 11th and 10th in the last two seasons, responded by beating Liverpool 3-0 on the opening day of the new campaign.
Reid said: "I did an interview on Talksport the week before the season started with Darren Gough and Adrian Durham and the next minute they were tipping us to go down. So I mustn't have sounded too confident.
"But we believe in the squad and in each other. With the old gaffer leaving and Steve Clarke getting his first job as a manager, people must have drawn a few conclusions.
"But if anything we look stronger this season, especially in forward positions, and we have kept the majority of the squad.
"We have made a few changes but the squad is looking strong, as we saw against Liverpool, and we're confident we can have a good season.
"We have made some good signings over the summer and we're looking really strong now going forwards."
