Scotland call would boost West Brom's Matt Phillips

Matt Phillips reckons he's in the best form of his career, and says a Scotland call-up would just boost his confidence further.

The 25-year-old winger has five goals and seven assists in his last 11 games for Albion.

Now he's settled in, he feels more comfortable at the club, and is relishing training each day.

"I'm just really enjoying it," he said. "It's taken me a little while to get settled here, but I'm really enjoying being part of the group and we're producing some really good results as well.

"At the moment I'm coming into training every day with a smile on my face."

Only Kevin De Bruyne has more assists in the Premier League this season than the eight Phillips has produced for the Baggies.

"It's good," he said. "That means you're doing something right and contributing to the team. "I've always said I need to add consistency to my game and hopefully I can make that last."

Remarkably, Phillips was left out of Gordon Strachan's last squad even though Scotland are underperforming in the World Cup qualifiers.

With a home tie against England coming up in June, the Aylesbury-born winger, who qualifies through his Ayrshire grandparents, is eager to get in the next one.

"My Scotland career has never really taken off," he said. "I've been in and out of squads.

"At times I've got in and then got injured. Now it's time to knuckle down."

Team-mates Darren Fletcher and James Morrison are also Scotland internationals, and Phillips reckons the trio and recreate their club form for their country.

"I hope it helps," he said. "We have an understanding between us from playing so regualrly together. Hopefully the manager is looking at that and thinking I can contruibute to the side."

Thanks to his exploits for Albion, there has been a huge outcry from Scotland fans to include him in the next squad. That in turn, helps the Baggies.

"I see little bits on social media," said Phillips. "That helps with the confidence.

"It's what you want. When people want you it's the best feeling, it's very pleasing."

"Hopefully in the coming weeks I can keep on performing for West Brom and get back in the squad."
