Nolan Galves update and West Brom predicted XI for QPR with right-back replacement view

James Morrison has another big poser when it comes to Saturday’s early kick-off against QPR.

Albion’s fixture pile-up continues as Queens Park Rangers come to The Hawthorns for a Saturday lunchtime clash with the hosts facing a right-back crisis.

Boss James Morrison is without the injured Nolan Galves and suspended Brayann Pereira as a result of the memorable 1-0 win at Derby County in midweek.

Galves is to see a specialist to discover the full extent of the knee injury he picked up early in the second half.

The French summer signing was introduced for Harry Whitwell after his compatriot Pereira was given his marching orders 10 minutes before the break for two yellow cards on his Albion debut.

Pereira will serve a one-match ban for the pair of cautions and will not be involved against the Rs.

Head coach Morrison has no more senior right-backs at his disposal after the club allowed promising youngster Alex Williams to depart on loan for Hibernian in Scotland last week.

Morrison does have options to fill in the void and it will be fascinating to see who he opts for in the position.

Left-back Callum Styles switched to the right side after Galves’ injury at Pride Park and performed admirably with Conor Townsend a very capable back-up on the left.

Styles may be the leading contender to play on the right in the eye of many fans.

But I think captain George Campbell may switch from the heart of Morrison’s defence to fill the right-back role.

Campbell spent most of last season playing out of position at right-back and while he struggled at times, he did well enough overall given the circumstances.

It may be claimed his loss would be felt at centre-back, but Chris Mepham showed last weekend against Watford he can come into the side with ease. He was unfortunate to miss out against the Rams, but Nat Phillips returned and was excellent.

Moving Campbell across may be the ‘least worst’ option and lead to less change to the in-form side.

Morrison’s other options are to use a midfielder, or even an attacker, in the role.

There have been calls for Jayson Molumby to be shunted to right-back. That is a possibility and Molumby has covered on the right of midfield previously. His energy would serve him well at right-back and I could see it working - but Albion would miss his bite in midfield, even though Rabby Nzingoula and Toby Collyer are waiting in the wings.

New summer signings Felix Horn Myhre was a right-back before his former club SK Brann moulded him into an attack-minded midfielder.

Winger Kareem Tunde also had brief spells at right-back for Levante in his debut campaign last season. Albion’s Whitwell and Nzingoula are also potential emergency options.

I could see Horn Myhre in the right-back role. Morrison sees the Norwegian as a very intelligent footballer, happy to work the hard yards and take on responsibility. But I am leaning towards Campbell.
