'That always plays on my mind!' James Morrison makes admission about positive West Brom feedback
The Hawthorns head coach wants to continue the good mood - but will remain wary.
Wary Albion boss James Morrison admitted he is most on guard when positive messages fly in after good results.
Morrison’s men have enjoyed a stunning start to the new season and Wednesday’s heroic win at Derby with 10 men sent them top of the pile in the Championship.
The head coach sees his side host QPR in Saturday’s early kick-off in a gruelling schedule of seven matches in 21 days, but Morrison has said on occasion he wants to enjoy the positive results.
The boss confessed, however, glowing reviews keep him on his toes - because he believes the Championship always has a sting in its tail.
“We’re getting a lot of positive feedback,” Morrison said.
“That always plays on my mind! When positive messages come, that’s when I’m always thinking ‘what if?’
“The games have been difficult. It’s not all been plain-sailing. We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing and trying to turn performances out, because results come with performances.”
The Baggies boss was keen to build on the momentum of the spring where Morrison, then as caretaker, steered the club on a 10-match unbeaten run to secure survival.
He has done just that, with just one defeat from six to Albion top the pile. Morrison will be wary as five wins and a draw from six saw Carlos Corberan’s side top the pile two seasons ago, before a dip in form.
Ryan Mason’s Albion enjoyed a strong start to last season, with three wins and a draw in August, before the campaign unravelled.
“It’s ahead of schedule in terms of the squad and knitting it together,” Morrison added.
“It’s always nice to get a good start, obviously to build the confidence and try to continue the positive feel we had from last year going into this season.
“But it’s important that we stay level-headed, with the games coming thick and fast.
“The Championship can remind you ‘just hang on a minute’ - we’re not there yet.”
