Hot on the heels of his recall to international duty with the Republic of Ireland, the Baggies keeper pipped Wolves rival Wayne Hennessey to the award after accumulating 18 clean sheets.

"I've got to be honest and admit I didn't know there was a Golden Glove award!" said Kiely.

"I'm fiercely proud of my clean sheets record and ratio right the way through my career. But all season, the focus was on us getting promoted, not on how many clean sheets I kept. Saying that, I'm thrilled to have won it, it's up there with when Charlton went up into the Premier League as champions and I broke the club record for clean sheets with 19. I kept 18 this year and that again equates to about one in three which is my career record, so it's been business as usual in that respect."

At the age of 37 and with a fresh challenge ahead with both Ireland and Albion, Kiely shows no sign of letting up.

He added: "I identified what the job would be here, it was about being dependable, consistent, not the kind of keeper that will let the ball through his legs or his hands or let a daft one in. It was about not costing the team and I think that has again helped my game. I've played in a promoted team, kept a lot of clean sheets, played nearly every game, and I can look back at that over the summer with a lot of job satisfaction."
