'Humbled': West Brom make James Morrison decision after remarkable survival mission

Morrison has led Albion on a ten game unbeaten run this season.

West Brom have confirmed the appoint of James Morrison as the club’s new permanent head coach - after a remarkable turnaround in form.

Morrison’s third interim spell began earlier this season with Albion on the slide to League One.

But he turned things around with the Baggies now on a ten game unbeaten run that has seen them secure their Championship status with a game to spare.

And just days after the survival was confirmed, the club have made the decision to reward Morrison with the chance to take the job on a permanent basis.

In total, across three interim spells Morrison, who played 341 times for Albion, has lost just one of his 14 games in charge.

The length of his contract has not yet been disclosed, but Morrison takes over on a permanent basis ahead of Albion’s last game of the season at Sheffield Wednesday.

The former midfielder insisted he was humbled with the decision - and is determined to put the club on course for success.

He said: “I’m honoured and humbled to have been appointed head coach of this great football club.

“The togetherness we have displayed in recent months – as players, staff, directors and fans – shows the enormous power of the Albion when it’s focused on a collective goal.

“We must now use that passion and energy to set the club back on course for success.

“Right now, my focus is on preparing the team for our final game at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday – but to go to Hillsborough knowing our fate has already been sealed on the pitch is down to the hard work of everyone at The Hawthorns.

“I would like to thank everyone for their efforts during my me as interim – not least the fans who backed us to safety.

“I will never forget the end to the Ipswich game when it felt like it was us against the world, with the atmosphere off the pitch matching the efforts of the players on it. Here’s to more of that, please.”
