Derby County dealt injury blow for West Brom clash as Rams new boy Alex Mowatt discusses style

Derby will be without the attacker in Wednesday’s Pride Park clash.

Derby County will be without attacking Rhian Brewster for Wednesday night’s clash against Albion.

Brewster, who once cost Sheffield United in excess of £20million from Liverpool, picked up a head injury in the early stages of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at West Ham.

Boss John Eustace confirmed Brewster, 26, will miss the next two games including against the Baggies due to concussion protocols as a result of the knock.

The former England youth star has endured several torrid years through injury for much of the time since he swapped Merseyside for the Blades in late 2020.

Eustace said: "He's unfortunately got concussion so he won't be available now for the next couple of games, which is a blow to us.

"It was great to get Rhian into two consecutive games, which he hasn't done for a long time.

"We're trying to build his fitness up for sure, so to lose him again for a couple of games is a blow, but it gives somebody else an opportunity."

Brewster joined Derby from Sheffield United as a free agent in 2025. He scored seven goals in 31 outings for the east Midlands club last term.

Derby also have defender Craig Forsyth out with a long-term knee injury picked up the previous weekend against Portsmouth, the Rams’ sole win of the new season.

Derby are Albion’s bogey team and, incredibly, the Baggies have won just once away to Derby in league action in 106 years - courtesy of a Rob Hulse winner in August 2003.

The familiar face of Alex Mowatt, who was set to be Albion club captain, will line up against James Morrison’s side after his move from The Hawthorns to Pride Park for a transfer in the region of £600,000-£700,000 on the eve of the new league season.

Mowatt said over the weekend: “I’ve enjoyed it so far. Saturday was a difficult game.

“It’s a little bit different style of play (to earlier in career), not compared to everything, but compared to recent years I’d say.

“I’m just getting used to that and hopefully can get better and better.”
