West Brom 'showman' Jayson Molumby was angry - and then turned it on

The popular midfielder is never far from the headlines and cranked up The Hawthorns atmosphere again on Saturday.

Pumped-up Jayson Molumby has been described as Albion’s “showman” after the midfielder delighted The Hawthorns faithful with an all-action cameo.

Long-serving Molumby, 27, was handed a breather by boss James Morrison for Saturday’s clash against Watford.

But the “angry” midfielder was introduced midway through the second period and played an instrumental role in frustrating the Hornets in the closing stages, as he took the brunt of fired-up Watford defenders near the corner flag before whipping up the Smethwick End faithful.

Molumby is never far from the headlines and Morrison was satisfied with the Irishman’s impact, having admitted his omission was with an eye on Wednesday’s trip to Derby.

"He's a showman isn't he?” Morrison told the Express & Star.

“Definitely that (complex). He was probably angry at me that he didn't start.

"But, again, when you come on you've got to show me.

"In previous games he's been really good and my eye is probably on Wednesday for him.”

Molumby, who was linked with a possible Hawthorns exit this summer, is closing in on 200 appearances for the club.

His iconic ‘in your head’ chant boomed around the stadium after a series of fired-up fist-pumps to the Smethwick End.

"Jayson took five or 10 minutes to get going and then the crowd started singing his name and he played to it,” Morrison added.

"He plays with so much intensity.

"Last Wednesday night (against Charlton) was a tough game physically - and in the end I got it right!

"I know where he's at physically, I can see it. He's getting those reactions, as well.

"He was a bit slow coming on, getting into the game, then the last bit, with some tackles and that last bit running into the corner, the energy he's got.

"Yes (his intensity drives others) - that's what type of player and personality he is. He always gives 110 per cent and you can't knock him for that.

"I've got options. I was thinking which way to go and in the last few games have had selection headaches."
