James Morrison's request to players as West Brom hope finish line closes in

Resurgent Albion are closing in - and boss James Morrison wants one thing.

James Morrison has urged determined Albion to continue to do their talking on the pitch in the surge for Championship survival.

The head coach, in place until the end of the season, wants to see the in-form Baggies take their fate back into their own hands despite the uncertainty of an EFL charge hanging over the club.

Albion welcome mid-table Watford, who are winless in five, to The Hawthorns on Tuesday night where victory coupled with Oxford dropping points elsewhere would see Morrison’s men safe - but for any possible points deduction.

Morrison, who banned talk of the charge at the training base, wants to see his troops rack up the wins and points so any potential sanction is meaningless.

“It’s a quick turnaround, training on Sunday and preparation for the game on Monday,” Morrison said.

“No (there was no impact against Preston). Our main focus was just to concentrate on the game and to do our jobs.

“It was a highly-pressurised game like that and we came out with three points and that’s what we wanted to do.

“We’re in this position and we want to go back-to-back wins. We strive for the winning feeling. I’ve quashed (charge talk) all week and will continue to.

“The football is doing its talking and that’s the way it should be. We’ve got no control over it so we will do our talking on the pitch.”

Morrison’s side are unbeaten in eight games and confidence is high from Saturday’s impressive 2-0 win at Preston.

That success increased the buffer to the drop to five points.

“We’ve been concentrating on our jobs in training because matches are big enough without anything else,” he added.

“I’ve been really pleased with our energy around the week, on the training pitch, the lads are connecting. I’ve no qualms about it being any different.”

“You felt it on Saturday,” Morrison said. “The talk was on our performance and we have to quieten down anything else.

“We want people to come here and talk to us about playing football and not other stuff. I want everyone going home happy.”
