Tony Pulis challenges Brendan Galloway to win back West Brom place
Tony Pulis has challenged Brendan Galloway to reclaim his place in the Albion defence.
The Everton loanee played three games at left-back earlier this season but lost his position to Allan Nyom after giving away a penalty at home to West Ham.
But Pulis knows he will have to turn to the 20-year-old defender again soon, because Craig Dawson is teetering on the brink of a one-game suspension, having picked up four yellow cards already this season.
Nyom is traditionally a right-back, which means Pulis will move the Cameroon international to the opposite wing and reinstate Galloway at left-back.
"Brendan's been unlucky," said Pulis. "He'll get his chance because we're now picking up bookings.
"Dawson has got four, if he gets booked then he'll miss a game so Galloway will get his chance. If he gets his chance he's got to stay in the team."
Galloway was impressive during his first game in an Albion shirt at home to Middlesbrough, but made a couple of positional mistakes in the two matches afterwards.
Last season Pulis gave Serge Gnabry just 12 minutes of Premier League football when he was on loan from Arsenal and the Welshman was disappointed with the German's condition.
But there are no such problems with Galloway and Pulis said there was definitely a way back into the team for the England under-21 international, who could feature for Aidy Boothroyd's team against Italy at St Mary's Stadium tonight.
"He's been smashing," said Pulis. "Obviously he had the problem when he went away and came back and that gave Nyom a chance.
"Nyom's got a few bookings, Dawson is on four, so that could give Brendan his chance. He's got to take it and make sure he plays well and stays in the team."
The Baggies have already lost Jonny Evans, Claudio Yacob, and James McClean to one-game suspensions this season after all three picked up five yellow cards in the opening 10 games.
Pulis has complained to referees' chief Mike Riley about the number of bookings the Baggies have received.
