The Baggies have confirmed Anelka will not travel to Goodison Park for Saturday's game after his agent, Eric Manasse, passed away.

Anelka and Manasse were very close with the striker extremely upset.

The 34-year-old spoke to sporting and technical director Richard Garlick this morning and told him he was not in the right frame of mind to play or train and was given permission to take some time away from the Baggies

A statement read: "West Bromwich Albion can confirm that Nicolas Anelka will not be involved in Saturday's game at Everton.

"The club have excused the striker from club duty on compassionate grounds."

Anelka signed a one-year contract in July after leaving Juventus and impressed with seven goals in seven games this summer but endured a disappointing debut in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton last Saturday.
