Lodi's effort took a big deflection off Baggies striker Shane Long to settle a poor game in Shropshire.

It meant a first loss in four pre-season outings for Albion.

A dreadful first half was short of major incident but the best chances fell to the Italian side.

After Kemar Roofe had narrowly failed to connect with a Markus Rosenberg cross early on, the game failed to ignite until the closing stages of the half.

Genoa went close when Mario Alberto Santana dragged an effort wide from distance with the aid of a deflection.

And they threatened again when Andrea Bertolacci an audacious flick with the outside of his right foot just wide of the far post from a left-wing cross.

Graham Dorrans was twice denied twice early in the second half when goalkeeper Mattia Perin made a smart save and then defender Thomas Manfredini blocked with his face to keep out a powerful shot.

Alberto Gilardino sent a shot over the bar from a tight angle for the Italians, who then took the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Andrea Bertolacci teed up Lodi, who saw his powerful shot from just inside the box deflect off Long and beat Luke Daniels in the Baggies goal.

In the closing stages Baggies substitute Wes Atkinson had a shot parried by Perrin with fellow youngster Aaron Birch flagged offside when he chased down the follow-up.
