Walsall FC ready to fight back from Bradford City defeat

James Baxendale today claimed Walsall's unwavering confidence will help them bounce back when they head to Colchester United this Saturday.

After their unbeaten four-game run was ended by Bradford City last weekend, the Saddlers will be looking to get back on track in Essex against a Colchester side who have failed to win in nine matches.

Baxendale said belief within Dean Smith's squad remains strong and has not been affected by the Bradford setback.

"I believe in the squad," he said.

"I believe the group of players we have here are very good and the way we are approaching each game is so positive. We play the right way and we give everything we can."

"We will always back each other up and we know we are always going to create chances. Saturday was one of those days where we conceded goals at bad times.

"We approach every game looking for the three points; we have proved what we are capable of and know that on our day we have no-one to fear in this league.

"Already the focus has turned to the next game and ensuring that we can respond in the right way."

Baxendale was a second half substitute on Saturday and has found himself in and out of the starting line-up in recent games.

But the 21-year-old, who signed a new three-year deal on the eve of the campaign, remains upbeat and has vowed to win back his place.

And he believes fierce competition for places can only be a good thing for the team.

"If I'm coming off the bench I need to do well. I want to keep the right attitude and keep working hard," he said.

"We have a lot of good attacking players and any of those not in the side can probably feel hard done by.

"That means the lads who have got the shirt have got to play well to keep it because there are going to be lads pushing them on.

"I think that is only good for the team. It makes everyone up their game."

"I just want to keep doing the same things I am doing day in, day out and nail down a place in the team.
