The best 5 Walsall signings of the Trivela era - ranked

A look at the best five Walsall signings of the Trivela era so far.

It’s been over four years since Trivela purchased a majority stake in Walsall in June 2022, as a new era commenced at Bescot.

Here, we take a look at the best five signings during their tenure so far.

5. Daniel Kanu

Kanu was another shrewd find on the loan market, but at least on this occasion, Walsall avoided the dreaded January recall.

The Charlton Athletic loanee found the net 18 times in all competitions and was named EFL Young Player of the Year.

His goals were not quite as frequent during the second half of the campaign, but he still ended up with 10 goals more than any of his Walsall teammates.

4. Albert Adomah

Aging like fine wine, Adomah, or ‘Uncs’ as he is affectionally known, became an immediate hit following his summer arrival in 2024.

The 38-year-old has ticked off a number of milestones at Walsall - scoring his 100th club career goal and becoming the first player in English football history to reach a century of appearances for six different clubs.

Adomah is now also just five shy of 800 club career appearances, as he heads into his 20th season in the Football League.

In total, the former Ghana international has netted 13 goals and set-up 11 more in 105 matches for the Saddlers - averaging 0.54 direct goal contributions per 90.

3. Isaac Hutchinson

Another player signed by Michael Flynn, Hutchinson was one of the shining lights in a disappointing 2022-23 season.

Walsall finished in 16th-place, but Hutchinson racked up respectable numbers - registering seven goals and six assists in total.

His only season under Sadler would be even better, as Hutchinson found the net 15 times and set-up 12 more across all competitions.

However, Hutchinson rediscovered his groove on loan at Cheltenham Town where he scored 18 goals last season, and recently joined League One side Doncaster Rovers.

2. Taylor Allen

Dubbed the ‘Cannock Cannavaro’, Allen joined Walsall in the very first summer under Trivela once his contract with Forest Green Rovers expired in 2022.

Allen overcame a tricky first 18 months at Bescot and transformed into a key figure at left centre-back under Mat Sadler.

His final season heralded 11 goals and eight assists in 57 appearances, before he was sold to Wycombe Wanderers for a six-figure fee last summer.

1. Nathan Lowe

They say never fall in a love with a loan player, but that was never going to be the case with Lowe.

The then teenager plundered 18 goals and set-up seven more in just 30 appearances during his loan spell from Stoke City in the first half of 2024-25.

He was recalled with the Saddlers riding high with a 12-point lead at the League Two summit in January, but his departure coincided with a major slump.

Walsall missed out on automatic promotion after winning just three of their last 21 games, before losing in the subsequent play-off final.

Lowe scored seven goals in 26 games for Stockport County and four in 12 for Wycombe Wanderers during his loan spells in League One last term.

And he netted on his Hibernian debut in a friendly victory over Brondby on the weekend, after joining them on a season-long loan.
