Ex-Walsall loan favourite Nathan Lowe seals Scottish loan move

Former Walsall loan striker Nathan Lowe has joined Scottish Premier League outfit Hibernian on a season-long loan from Stoke City.

Lowe has also penned a contract extension with the Potters until 2029, before committing to Hibernian for the new season.

The 20-year-old scored 18 goals and set-up five more in 30 appearances in all competitions for Walsall during the first half of the 2024-25 season.

Walsall were top of League Two by 12 points and had just set a club record winning streak when Stoke recalled him in January 2025.

They subsequently missed out on automatic promotion and lost in the play-off final against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley.

Despite his premature departure, Lowe was named EFL League Two young player of the season.

Lowe scored seven goals in 26 games on loan at League One side Stockport County during the first half of last term.

However, the young striker returned to Stoke due to injury, before finishing the season at Wycombe Wanderers, where he scored four goals in 14 appearances.

Hibernian finished fifth in the Scottish top-flight last season and secured a place in this season’s UEFA Conference League.

“Nathan has no doubt benefitted from the experiences he’s had in Leagues One and Two, and it speaks to his mature character that he wants to test himself in a new environment in Scotland,” Stoke sporting director Jonathan Walters said.

“That he will also gain exposure to playing in European competition is something new and will only help his development.
