Albert Adomah, Walsall's fan-favourite with an insatiable competitive streak

Walsall favourite Albert Adomah continues to drink from a fountain of youth at the age of 37.

Adomah is an affable, larger than life character, which to the outsider could sometimes be mistaken for somewhat of a novelty act.

Yet amid the dancing, laughter and smiles, remains a burning desire, which still rages as strong as ever, to succeed.

His loveable personality dovetails so harmoniously with his tenacious and indefatigable style, which also still has room for the odd moment of magic.

The joy of football has clearly never left him. He still plays as he once did as a child on the fields of London, with Loftus Road peering as a distant dream in the backdrop.

Over 700 appearances, 101 professional club goals, 19 international caps for Ghana and two promotions to the Premier League later, and Adomah still has a prophecy to achieve more in the twilight years of a dazzling career.

"Why Albert's loved so much is because he never underplays the importance of situations, but he does also do it whilst having fun," Walsall boss Mat Sadler beamed.

"Albert epitomises all of that. He plays with an energy and an effervescence that I don't think you see too often in many players.

"It's why he's been a fan favourite at every club he's been at, and while he'll always be held in such high esteem with us."

As Sadler eloquently expressed, Adomah represents fun and excitement amid the challenging world of professional football.

That was in full view when he danced to the corner flag in the final seconds of the Saddlers' League Two play-off semi-final second leg against Chesterfield in May.

With a trademark dribble and the deftest drop of the shoulder, Callum McFadzean was left in his wake, eating the grass which spluttered off Adomah's studs as he succumbed to his knees.

Adomah's vision, still as sharp as ever, spotted Levi Amantchi unmarked, and his delivery - precision personified - created one of the moments of the season.

There were very few qualms, if any, when Adomah signed for another year in the summer. After all, he has unfinished business at Walsall.

Goal No 100 arrived at Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy and he added to his tally to put the seal on a 4-2 win over Tranmere Rovers last weekend.

He celebrated in typical Adomah style, borrowing a walking stick from the crowd, before dancing in front of the stands to a chorus of cheers.

Afterwards, Adomah handed his shirt to the supporter, which will likely hang proudly on their wall at home.
