Comment: 2026 takes another dark turn as Walsall seek light at the end of the tunnel at Salford
2026 took another dark turn for Walsall when they were condemned to late heartbreak on the weekend.
It was a bitter blow in the first of four crunch clashes, which they will resume when they travel to Salford City on Tuesday night.
Walsall played some of their best football in weeks against Notts County, but still came up short after a stunning half-volley by Oliver Norburn and a 94th-minute winner from Jodi Jones completed a late turnaround.
That extended the Saddlers' losing run to four games at Bescot and left them winless in seven League Two games in front of their own supporters.
Form on the road has been better and Walsall will be hoping that they can at least salvage something from their season by picking up points away from the Bescot.

They have won just twice in 13 games since the turn of the year, both of which have come on their travels against Tranmere Rovers in January and local rivals Shrewsbury Town in late February.
Only league leaders Bromley (32) and fellow promotion contenders MK Dons (30) have picked up more away points than the Saddlers (29) this term.
