Ian Sharps looking forward to getting to work with Walsall on permanent basis
Ian Sharps is looking forward to getting to work after finally turning his voluntary role with Walsall into a permanent position.
The Saddlers agreed compensation with National League outfit Chester yesterday to release Sharps from his position as assistant manager at the Blues and make him the new first-team coach at the Banks's Stadium.
He takes up the role of first-team coach – 18 months after he had been working with the Saddlers on a voluntary basis.
"I feel very privileged to have been offered the job and I can't wait to get started," said former Shrewsbury Town captain Sharps, the replacement for Dean Holden, who moved to Bristol City last week. "I've known Jon a couple of years and I got to know the club well when I came here on a voluntary basis about two years ago.
I enjoyed my time at Chester but this was too good a prospect to turn down. I'm an ambitious man and I want to continue to progress here."
