Walsall swoop to bring in Theo Vassell
Walsall have signed promising centre-back Theo Vassell.
The 19-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the Banks's Stadium which includes the option of a further 12 months.
Vassell previously worked with first-team coach Dean Holden at Oldham and has been offered a contract after impressing on trial.
He said: "I'm delighted to have signed for Walsall. I think this is going to be a really good opportunity for me and, hopefully, I can get some game time.
"I know Deano (Holden) from Oldham and he played a big part in me coming here. He really convinced me and I think this could be one of the best decisions I've made.
"They're a good bunch of lads here. We've got a lot of young players and a few who are more experienced. I feel I've settled in well and they're all really friendly people."
"Deano spoke really highly of Theo from his time at Oldham. He came in at the end of last year and trained with the first-team.
"I was really pleased with his application and defensive attributes. He's quite old school. He just wanted to defend first and foremost, and then work on the technical side.
"He's one for the future. He may push through and be one we put out on loan to get some games under his belt.
"But again, we're a developing club and he's one who will hopefully be a centre half for Walsall in the coming years."
