The visitors raced into a two goal lead courtesy of Wes Morgan's header and a sublime David Nugent strike.

But the Saddlers hit back with goals either side of the break from French trialist Mathieu Manset and Ashley Grimes.

Drinkwater won it three minutes from time when he blasted home from 25 yards.

Despite the defeat this was an encouraging performance from the hosts, who fought back well after a sloppy opening half hour.

And former Hereford and Reading striker Manset, who was listed on the team-sheet as merely 'trialist,' also impressed as he scored and set up Grimes' leveller.

Leicester had already forced a couple of corners, one the courtesy of a misdirected defensive header from Manset, before grabbing the early lead when Paul Downing allowed Morgan to steal in unmarked and head home Mark Albrighton's corner.

Grimes, in his first appearance at the Banks's after signing a one-year deal last week, almost levelled for the Saddlers inside 15 minutes.

His first-time shot drifted about a foot wide of the post with the goal empty, after visiting goalkeeper Ben Hamer had made a hash of a clearance.

Former Villa man Albrighton was causing plenty of menace with crosses from the win and Downing redeemed himself somewhat with good clearances from two of them.

The defender was involved in Leicester's second but no criticism could be apportioned after his brilliant interception robbed former Albion striker Chris Wood of the ball on the edge of the box.

It was merely his misfortune that Nugent's finish, after the loose ball had rolled to him on the left-hand side of the box, was a thing of beauty, struck with the outside of the right boot and flying over keeper Richard O'Donnell and into the top corner.

But any gripes over the Saddlers defending on occasion paled into comparison alongside the mess Paul Konchesky got himself into seconds before the break, which allowed Manset to pull one back.

The former England international got caught under a long clearance and allowed it to bounce, with Manset nipping in to lob the ball over a stranded Hamer.

Four minutes into the second half Manset showed he has skill to go with his doggedness, collecting a Benning pass from the left wing, beating his man and then squaring for Grimes to stroke home from eight yards out.

Back on level terms, the Saddlers now looked vibrant and James Baxendale floated a shot from 20 yards just wide after the impressive Benning had caused more trouble for the Foxes.

That said, the visitors would have re-taken the lead but for a brilliant save by O'Donnell, diving to his right to deny Andy King after a great interchange of passing between Wood and Nugent.

The passing of the hour mark brought the usual raft of substitutions, with Leicester changing all ten outfield players in the space of seven minutes.

It was the visitors who had the edge and eventually the win when Drinkwater hammered a shot past O'Donnell from distance with just three minutes remaining.
