Walsall goalkeeper David Grof today pleaded with Saddlers legend Jimmy Walker to commit his future to the club.
Walsall goalkeeper David Grof today pleaded with Saddlers legend Jimmy Walker to commit his future to the club.
Hungarian keeper Grof has penned a new contract to stay at the Banks's Stadium for next season but veteran Walker is still considering a deal to become a player-coach.
Walker, aged 38, has been told he needs to relocate from his Essex base to take up the coaching role but Grof is hoping Walker, with whom he vied for the No.1 spot last season, will agree to stay.
Grof said: "We've got a great relationship. I am trying to convince him to say on. I really hope he stays.
"It will be massive just to have him around and see him at training. We lost Jon Macken and he was an experienced player so that was big because young players look up to players like him.
"Hopefully we can convince Jimmy to stay. I'm pretty sure he can be a great coach and I know he wants to be. It can be a good start for him.
"He can have another season as a player but can also be a coach – I know he's excited about it.
"Hopefully they can work something out."
