Captain Andy Butler today targeted a six-point haul as Walsall look to seal survival in style.

The Saddlers skipper wants a final flourish as they prepare for their home showdown with Tranmere tomorrow.

Victory – and defeat for fourth bottom Wycombe against Oldham – would all but guarantee League One safety with Walsall currently four points clear of the drop zone.

And Butler insisted the Saddlers must target Rovers and next week's trip to doomed Exeter to complete the job.

He said: "Look at some of the games we've got, Tranmere at home and then Exeter away, we've got to look at them for points.

"Even Huddersfield at home (April 28), they're in the play-offs so you never know what team they might bring because hopefully it'll be all wrapped up by then.

"We've got to look forward to them. Last year we were still inside the bottom four but it's in our hands this year and no-one's heads are down. We're all confident and it was a good performance on Monday (a 1-0 defeat at leaders Charlton).

"We've felt relaxed all season. It's not like we've played poorly, we've just drawn a lot of games. We looked at it and we've dropped quite a few points which we should have taken. But the draws have added up and it's a little bit of a saviour.

"We're not over-confident but we're in a better position than we were."

And the 28-year-old insisted his last minute equaliser in the 3-3 draw at Rochdale last month – after Walsall blew a 2-0 lead to trail 3-2 with 30 seconds left – kept the team going.

He said: "If we had gone in at 2-2 at Rochdale it would have been a bit of a killer for us. But, having been down, to get it back to 3-3 it was a confidence-booster to show we weren't dead and buried.

"I thought Chesterfield would beat Wycombe on Monday and they did so let's hope Oldham do us a favour tomorrow."
