Lee Beevers today insisted Walsall will ignore the league standings in their survival run-in.

The right-back wants the Saddlers to forget about the League One table with the race for safety looking set to go to the wire again.

Saturday's luckless 2-1 defeat at Yeovil left them a point above the drop zone but Beevers said the Saddlers are not focused on their position yet.

"It's important not to look too much at the league table, we just need to focus on winning and getting as many points as we can," he said, with Walsall in 20th.

"We've got forward momentum, we're not sitting back and looking like we're going to get beaten and I think we're a hard team to beat.

"Ask any team who have come up against us – they'll say we are a hard team to break down, get in behind and score goals against. It's shown in the last few games and we shouldn't have lost on Saturday."

And the defender reckons the Saddlers, who beat the Owls 2-1 on Boxing Day, must keep cool after losing their six-game unbeaten run if they want to win at Hillsborough.

Wednesday are third in League One – level on points with Sheffield United in second – and have won three on the bounce since ex-Wolves boss Dave Jones took charge.

But former Ipswich trainee Beevers believes the Saddlers can spring a surprise if they remain calm.

"It's a tough place go to. They are aiming to go up automatically but as long as we do what we've been doing in the last seven games I'm sure we can do well there," said the 28-year-old.

"This year we've played well against the bigger teams in the division and hopefully that will continue.

"We need to get the ball down, move it around and go there with nothing to fear. We're looking dangerous and we believe we can win."
