Boss Dean Smith today hailed Neil Woods after the former head of youth stepped into the Walsall breach.
The former Grimsby boss was promoted from the youth set-up to Smith's No.2 after ex-coach Richard O'Kelly took over at Hereford this month.
Woods has led the Saddlers youth team since replacing Smith when he became boss last year and they are unbeaten in second in the North West Youth Alliance this term.
Smith said: "He's a good coach, knows the game inside out and has been in my position before so can be a helping hand. Neil's been where I am as manager of Grimsby and knows what it's about. He's done fantastically well."
