Andy Butler today insisted Walsall are gunning for Notts County and warned the Magpies they are not out of danger.
The Saddlers host County tonight with the skipper drawing the battle lines as the race for survival hots up.
County are nine points ahead of the 20th placed Saddlers, who are out of the League One drop zone on goal difference, and Butler insisted they have them in their sights.
"I don't think Notts County are out of it yet," he said. "If you get a couple of results and then you get the momentum you can catch up. We're a hard team to beat and what we need to do it is win.
"There are quite a few still in it, Oldham, Tranmere, Exeter. It only takes a couple of results and you are breathing over their shoulder or you're above them.
"In the grand scheme of things there's two winnable games this week (tonight and Scunthorpe on Saturday). They will get bigger towards the end of the season but at the moment we're looking like a team."
Tonight's game was rearranged from the weekend after the Magpies reached the FA Cup fourth round – before losing 1-0 to Stevenage on Saturday – and Butler admitted the enforced break threw the squad.
"It was strange, it felt like a Friday yesterday and it was odd watching the results come in on Saturday," he said.
"We can't concentrate on other teams, it doesn't matter what they do as we have to back ourselves against other teams. We back ourselves to go out there and get a good result tonight and Saturday."
Meanwhile, Will Grigg has been nominated for Mitre Goal of the Year 2011 at the Football League Awards.
The striker's volley in the 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe, who the Saddlers visit on Saturday, in September is up against goals from Peter Whittingham and Darren Ambrose among others.
