Walsall suffered late heartbreak as Scunthorpe got an injury time equaliser - despite Will Grigg's wonder goal.
The striker – who had been axed – climbed off the bench to smash in a glorious second-half volley but Jimmy Ryan's 90th minute leveller stretched Walsall's winless run to four games.
Adam Chambers' header put Walsall ahead but Scunthorpe levelled 11 minutes from time, when substitute Garry Thompson bundled in.
Scunthorpe, winless themselves this season, dominated possession and recalled goalkeeper Jimmy Walker saved from Chris Dagnall and Shane Duffy, with the Saddlers creating little from open play.
Walker, Oliver Lancashire, Anton Peterlin and Jamie Paterson all returned with goalkeeper David Grof, Manny Smith, Kevan Hurst and Grigg dropped after three straight defeats.
But the changes failed to spark Walsall as Bobby Grant and Duffy tested Walker early.
Saddlers boss Dean Smith spoke about bright starts and exciting the crowd but the hosts failed to impress – until they took the lead against the run of play on 22 minutes.
Richard Taundry tossed in a dangerous free kick and Chambers just beat Iron goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to the ball to flick his header into the corner.
But, despite the advantage, the Saddlers failed to force the issue and Scunthorpe continued to dominate possession.
The Iron worked the space well but were guilty of failing to take their chances and Walker thwarted Dagnall, after another incisive Scunthorpe move opened Walsall up.
The scrappy Saddlers were far from fluid but still held a lead – despite failing to threaten once from open play.

The visitors kept pressing and Walsall kept repelling until the 79th minute, when Thompson finally levelled.
Walsall failed to clear a corner and, when the ball was nodded back across, Thompson was one of four Iron players queuing up to score – which he did from three yards.
Paterson's shot was tipped wide by Johnstone as Walsall responded and Grigg thought he had won it on 82 minutes with another incredible strike.
Taundry, in space on the left, delivered a looping cross to the unmarked striker who smashed a wonderful first-time volley which arrowed across Johnstone and flew into the top corner.
It topped strikes from Chambers, Jarvis and Jon Macken which had already lit up the Banks's Stadium this season.
But it couldn't win it as the Iron grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser, when Ryan drilled in from 18-yards.
