Walsall manager Dean Smith has insisted the Saddlers fell well short of his standards on Saturday and tossed a win "down the drain."

Smith's men went down 1-0 to Brentford at the Banks's Stadium to put the brakes on the early-season optimism.

And the Saddlers boss warned his men he expects better after their first home defeat of the new League One season.

He said: "Unfortunately it's three points down the drain for me. It's a chance missed because we're more than capable of beating Brentford and we should have done.

"They all know what my expectations of them are and they know they fell short in the first-half. We'll brush ourselves down and get ready for the next game."
