Jordan Cook today vowed to repay boss Dean Smith's faith and shoot Walsall to safety.

The Sunderland loanee wants to become the Saddlers' saviour in the League One run-in with the club battling the drop.

He scored his first career strike in the 3-2 win over Brentford in mid-week and now wants to become worth his weight in goals.

He said: "That's what I came here for - to score goals. The manager said when I first joined 'just nick us a goal'.

"Obviously playing wide right isn't my favourite position but I always try to get in the box and score.

"The gaffer brought me here and said he wanted me to get goals.

"Playing on the wing I can use my pace and spin in behind. We've got Jon Macken who holds the ball up and I can feed off him.

"I hadn't played a full game in two months because I was injured at Sunderland with a hamstring problem.

"It kept me from getting on the bench for Sunderland. Coming here I just wanted to get 90 minutes in league football - that's all I want to do."
