Marco Gbarssin insists best still to come at Walsall

Midfield ace Marco Gbarssin today vowed to prove his worth to Walsall.

The Frenchman was dropped for Tuesday's 3-2 comeback victory against Brentford and faces a fight to return against title-chasing Brighton on Saturday.

His Walsall deal is due to expire after the final home game of the campaign with Charlton and is also out of contract at Brunton Park but believes he can find his true form in his last four games.

"There's more to come. I've had a tough season, I was in Denmark, I arrived in England as a new player and then wasn't playing but I'm getting better and better game after game," said Gbarssin, who started the season with Danish outfit FC Fredericia.

"I'm not at my best but I hope at the end of the season to reach it and next season show I can be even better.

"I'm really enjoying myself. As a footballer, when you get some pitch time, it's always a joy. Every day we have to enjoy what we do because it's a wonderful profession. We have to have a good time."

Gbarssin was one of four axed for the Brentford showdown as boss Dean Smith made changes following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Plymouth.

Two-goal Jon Macken, Richard Taundry and Clayton McDonald – his first start since November – returned and Smith was impressed with McDonald's contribution after so long out.

"He's been waiting for his chance and I've always said, if I don't think the team is performing then I'll change it," he said, after the win lifted Walsall out of the League One drop zone.

"The team didn't perform at Plymouth so I made a number of changes and Clayton was one who got his chance and did admirably.

"It's been a while but he performed well in the reserves against Scunthorpe and in training he's been doing well. He did well in 90 minutes without a first team start since November."
