Walsall today completed the signing of Tom Williams to boost their League One survival chances.

The 30-year-old left-sided player has signed a deal until the end of the season, after his release from Championship outfit Bristol City, following a nine-match loan spell at Colchester.

Williams, who can play in defence or midfield, is available make his debut at home to Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow.

And the Carshalton-born utility man, who has won one cap for Cyprus and is married to ex-glamour model Nicola McLean, is looking forward to making his Saddlers bow.

He said: "Hopefully I'll bring a bit of experience to the team. I don't have a relegation on my CV at the minute and don't intend to add one here.

"I know a few of the lads already, so that will help me settle in quickly and get on with the task of helping us get as many points as we can from these remaining games.

"I spoke to the manager over the weekend and I fit into the mould he's looking for, so hopefully we can work well together. It's a challenge I'm looking forward to.

"My only aim is to help Walsall stay up."

Manager Dean Smith believes his new signing will bring versatility and experience to the Saddlers cause.

He said: "Tom will bring the experience we need. He has over 300 senior games under his belt and is able to play in a number of different positions.

"He's got the qualities we need and knows this level well."
