Returning hero Jimmy Walker today vowed to save Walsall's season and insisted they will stay up.

The goalkeeper has answered the Saddlers' S0S after a disastrous start left them rooted to the bottom of League One.

An improved performance at 10-man Huddersfield on Saturday couldn't prevent a 1-0 defeat and the 37-year-old, who returned on Friday, said the Saddlers can avoid the drop.

"You don't want to be down there at any stage but from what I've seen in the last few days there's more than enough here to start climbing the table and get to a decent position," he said.

"The lads have got far too much to be where we are. I've seen a couple of games and I know people who have seen games and they've said we don't deserve to be down there but the league table is there for a reason.

"It's a results business and we have to dig in, get a bit of luck to go our way and maybe nick a 1-0 — and there's no better chance to do it tomorrow against a good Peterborough team at home."

And Walker, who made 475 appearances for the Saddlers in 11-years, revealed his hurt at the club's plight.

"No-one likes to see it, that's the reason I came back, to help matters," said the stopper, who left for West Ham in 2004.

"Results are everything and it hurts me to see the club at the bottom.

"No-one is hurting more than us. I've followed them while I've been away, when I was at West Ham and Spurs the first result I looked for was Walsall so I'm going to look a bit more now!"

Defeat was Walsall's ninth in 12 games in all competitions and left them five points from safety.
