Walsall have today signed midfielder Martin Devaney on a month's loan from Championship club Barnsley.

The 30-year-old was at the Saddlers' Essington training ground this morning and goes straight into the squad for Saturday's visit of Exeter in League One.

Devaney joins Andrew Davies, who signed for a month from Stoke yesterday, as the Saddlers try to revive their season.

They have sunk to the bottom of League One after a seven-game winless run, with manager Chris Hutchings under increasing pressure.

Defeat against the Grecians would plunge the club deeper into crisis and Devaney has been brought in to change the tide.

Barnsley manager Mark Robins said: "Martin needs to play some games.

"We'll get him watched and monitor his progress and see how the move goes."

The former Cheltenham star spent time at Milton Keynes Dons last season, after falling down the pecking order since Robins' arrival as boss in 2009.

Devaney has made 172 appearances for the Tykes after moving from Watford in 2005, scoring 18 goals, but hasn't played since August.
