'I am not concerned yet' - Knights urges fight as Stourbridge seek survival spark

Darryl Knights is not yet worried about Stourbridge's precarious position in the Southern Central Premier - but admits things "need to change and fast".

The Glassboys, who are winless in their last 14 league matches, sit 20th in the table and 10 points adrift of safety.

Ahead of a crucial trip to basement side Royston Town tomorrow, Knights insists he is not panicking, but has urged his players to be ready for the fight.

Asked if the points gap concerns him, Knights said: "No, there is still a lot of games to be played. There are still 60 points plus to be played for.

"I was in this situation when I went into Bromsgrove last year, and we put a run together and next thing you know you are looking at midtable.

"I am not concerned yet, but things do need to change and fast, the lads need to realise that.

"Every game is a must win now and has to be treated as a cup final. For Royston the mentality will be exactly the same, so the boys have got to be up for it and be ready for a fight now, and battle in every game we go into.

"Royston will not roll over and let us have the points."

Stourbridge have conceded 42 league goals this season while scoring just 23, and have lost six of their last seven away league matches.

"I don't know if there is a mental block within the group where they just need that win to boost their confidence," added Knights.

"But, I have said to them, confidence is a bit of a con, the only way you will get out of it is by working hard, putting your head down, and keep grafting.

"Unfortunately individual errors and things keep costing us, like they did last Saturday.

"We were 2-0 up, comfortable in the game. There were a few mistakes that led to the penalty, and then you are thinking here we go again. To not see the game out at 2-2 is bad.

"We are a young group, but there is only so long you can say that before you need to make changes with it."

Meanwhile, league rivals Halesowen Town visit strugglers AFC Sudbury. The Yeltz sit seventh in the standings, three points adrift of the play-offs.

In the Northern Premier League, leaders Hednesford Town travel to Ilkeston Town looking to go eight league games unbeaten while 19th-placed Rushall Olympic welcome Warrington Town.

Rushall are winless in their last four league matches, but have faired better on the road with three wins, compared to two on home soil.

In the FA Trophy third round, Kidderminster Harriers visit Worksop Town looming to reach the fourth round stage for the fourth consecutive year.
