The Pitmen hosted Long Eaton United in the first qualifying round and made a good start when Danny Glover headed them ahead just before half-time.

In the second half, the visitors equalised through Alex Marshall before Dan Turner put Hednesford ahead again.

But once again Long Eaton bit back through Danny Gordon before hitting the bar late on.

Then, in the 92nd minute, Glover stepped up to net his second of the game and send Hednesford through.

Elsewhere in the competition, Rushall Olympic lost 3-1 on penalties to Grantham Town after a spirited comeback.

The Pics led through Rackeem Reid early on, before the same player then missed a one-on-one chance.

Nathan Dyer equalised for the hosts soon after before Manasse Kianga put them 2-1 up.

Goalscorer Reid was then given a straight red card for a late tackle before half-time.

With the game finely poised, Nehemia Zazi struck in the 94th minute with a back-heel from a corner to force the game to penalties. Despite their heroics, Rushall fell short on spot-kicks.

Stourbridge were also knocked out on penalties after making the short trip to Tamworth.

After going 1-0 down within two minutes, Stourbridge struck at the beginning of the second half through Greg Mills.

Goals from Darryl Knights and Andre Landell then put the Glassboys 3-1 up but they threw away the lead when Tamworth struck twice before full-time. In the penalty shoot-out, Stourbridge lost 5-3.

Chasetown progressed to the next round with a 2-1 win over Basford United.

Joey Butlin gave the hosts the lead before Kane Richards equalised. Chasetown goalkeeper Curtis Pond was sent off in the second half, but it did not stop them as a Ryan Wynter goal secured the win.

Elsewhere, Tividale fell to a 4-2 defeat to Nantwich Town, while Halesowen beat West Bridgford 1-0.

n Stafford Rangers have bolstered their squad with the addition of Ben Forrest from Birmingham City.

The Stourbridge-born 19-year-old, who can play anywhere along the back line, was released at St Andrew’s this summer.

n Dudley Town’s fixture at OJM Black Country in the West Midlands League on Saturday is off due to a positive Covid-19 test result in the OJM team.
