Charlie Blakemore: Chasetown will have plenty of suitors
Chasetown legend Charlie Blakemore believes the Scholars will be spoilt for choice as they look to replace manager Marcus Law, who has returned to Kettering Town.
Blakemore, who was in charge at Church Road between 2004 and 2011, explained Law's departure was a sad day for the club, but revealed they are already looking forward.
He said: "It's a shame because Marcus has done a great job and certainly had the impact we wanted and led us to a reasonable finish in the end.
"But the club has ambitions to get promoted and we're looking for a new manager.
"We're a well-run club with a solid fan base so Chasetown is an ideal team for an ambitious manager.
The former gaffer went on to rule himself out of the vacant post, but believes the club should remain optimistic as they sift through the numerous candidates.
"I won't be going for the job myself – I don't want to scare anyone off!" The club director said.
"But I've already been inundated with calls from managers.
"We're open-minded at this stage, but we want someone who is well connected at this level and the levels above.
"We also want someone who can attract good players and is equally ambitious and wants to progress at a club that shares the same ambitions with fire in their belly to take the club forwards."
Law returns to the Northamptonshire-based Poppies, who he managed in the 2010/11, before moving on to manage Tamworth.
He led the Scholars away from relegation fears last season, after succeeding Craig Harris.
Blakemore added: "We want to keep the squad together.
"I will be speaking to all of the players in the next 24 hours because we want to keep them to help us push for promotion and compete in all competitions next season."
