Sporting Khalsa target more trophies

After winning the Staffordshire FA Vase and the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division, Sporting Khalsa boss Ian Rowe has said he is now aiming to win the JW Hunt and League cups.

After falling behind top Lichfield early on, Sporting Khalsa managed to come back and win 3-1 thanks to a treble from Craig Bannister.

And Rowe was thrilled with his entire squad – not just hat-trick hero Bannister.

He said: "We got back in the house at 2am the following morning and I've got a bit of a sore throat, but we're just over the moon. The lads have done me proud – again.

"Without sounding cocky, we were the better side.

"We went 1-0 down after about 20 minutes. The lads didn't roll over, they didn't give in.

"Craig managed to score an incredible equaliser.

"These were goals of top-drawer proportions. The last was a 25-yard volley.

"These are lads that want to pull together, and that's what we need.

Not resting on their laurels, Sporting Khalsa are looking to the future.

They will need to play eight games in two weeks, but Rowe feels his lads are up to the challenge.

"It an exciting couple of weeks, it's been an exciting season," he said.

"If we can just see off this next couple of weeks, we could turn it into a mega season.

"We've done the double, we've got our League Cup match next Tuesday and we'll play Tividale in the J W Hunt Cup on Thursday.

"We could win every game we play. We've got a lot of games in a short period of time and they'll kill us, but I've been saying to the lads that they just need to get through the next three weeks.

"The aim is to win everything we enter.

"We're going to be up against it to get there, but we can do it.

"At this moment of time I'm proud of the lads, anything else is just a bonus at this point."

Rowe said his biggest priority for next season is to keep the team together, adding: " We want to go into the Midlands Football League next year and see how we do.

"We've got a good side and if we can keep it together, there's no reason we can't crack on."

"This year we've had to do everything the hard way.

"Outsiders think the club has loads of cash because we're improving our infrastructure, but on the field it's done without throwing the money at it.

"You do things right off the field and you hope you do better.

"You've got to get through those 42 games and a lot could happen.

"To say I'm proud of the lads would be a massive understatement."
