Khalsa turn down BBC live coverage
Sporting Khalsa and FC United of Manchester have turned down the chance from the BBC to broadcast their historic FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie – after being offered just £500 each.
Clubs featured on television in the first round last season received £67,500 each.
The BBC wanted to test their new Mobile Match of the Day Live experience by offering coverage of the game on mobile phones and tablets, with added access to the dressing rooms and dugouts.
A BBC spokesman said: "Our aim was, and remains, to showcase the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup in a unique and innovative way.
"We wanted to take the audience closer to a game and behind the scenes of a match. We will only do this with the full backing of both clubs involved in any tie broadcast."
The agreement would have seen the Saturday 3pm kick-off clash moved to a Sunday midday slot.
An FC United statement said: "'Match-going supporters should not have to be inconvenienced for the benefit of those who rarely, if at all, attend matches."
A Khalsa spokesman added: "With the match being moved, we'd miss out with food and drink opportunities for revenue."
