Given picked up a hamstring injury during Villa's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend.

The Ireland No.1 is out for a month and, while Dunne rued the loss of his compatriot, he is confident Guzan can fill his boots during a hectic festive period.

"Hopefully Shay will be back soon because he is an important player for us," said Dunne.

"Shay is fantastic and has been one of the top keepers in the Premier League for a long time and the reaction saves he makes are great. It is the communication he gives us as well which is important because he is always talking away to us throughout the game and will be a big loss.

"We've not got the biggest squad so it's a bit of a blow to us.

"But Brad did OK (when he replaced Given on Saturday) and obviously he will get his opportunity now. He has waited a long time for his chance and when he came on he looked great."

Villa boss Alex McLeish also praised Guzan for the manner in which the American responded to being thrown into action against the Premier League champions.

"It was good for Brad and great credit to him," said McLeish.

"I thought he handled it great."
