Blues v Villa: Exclusive photos show Jack Grealish fan attack

These exclusive photos show the moment Jack Grealish was attacked by a fan during the Second City Derby today.

The Aston Villa captain was punched and knocked to the ground in the 10th minute of the match before going onto score the only goal of the game in the 67th minute.

The fan, who Birmingham City have since promised will be banned for life, ran onto the at St Andrew's pitch from the Tilton End wearing a flat cap and threw a punch from behind Grealish, striking him on the side of the head.

And the exclusive pictures below, taken by photographer Andy Shaw, show how the incident unfolded during the midday fixture.

The punch caused a melee and the intruder was quickly restrained by stewards as several other players rushed in to confront him.

He was led away by police, blowing kisses to the crowd as he left, and arrested.

After the match, Blues said they deplored the fan's behaviour and that they would support any legal action taken against him.

The stadium's safety procedures will also be reviewed, the club said.

The EFL said the incident was something no player should have to deal with.
