The 29-year-old winger, who joined last month on a season-long loan from Everton, has spent his first few weeks building his fitness with the trip to Ewood Park pencilled in as his target.

Striker Tammy Abraham is also expected to make his bow as Villa look to get their season back on track, following chastening defeats at Burton and Sheffield United.

Boss Steve Bruce took the decision to take his time with Bolasie, who has made just 31 total appearances over the past two seasons following a serious knee injury.

“We always had it in our mind that we want him ready for after the international break,” said the boss. “He’s making huge strides out there... we’re quietly confident that he’ll be ready for Blackburn.”

Villa have, meanwhile, been linked with a move for free agent centre-back Robert Huth as Bruce considers bringing in defensive reinforcements.

The 34-year-old is without a club after leaving Leicester, where he won the Premier League title in 2016, at the end of last season.

Any chance of John Terry making a return to Villa Park is now gone with the former skipper having chosen to join Spartak Moscow.

Villa’s defence has become a major concern with Bruce’s team having leaked 11 goals in the opening six Championship games.

Loan moves for Le Havre’s Harold Moukoudi and Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna both failed last month.
