Forgotten man Ross McCormack set for £750k salary boost if Aston Villa win promotion

Forgotten man Ross McCormack will see his salary skyrocket by close to £750,000 should Villa win promotion – despite the striker not having kicked a ball in the Championship this season.

The 31-year-old would be due the increase as part of the terms of his four-year deal, signed when he joined Villa in a £12million move from Fulham back in August 2016.

McCormack, who is currently believed to earn around £45,000-a-week, has scored only three goals for Villa in that time and has not featured in the league this season, following a high-profile falling out with boss Steve Bruce.

Yet he, like every other member of the club’s squad, will be due an increase if Villa go on to regain Premier League status.

McCormack arrived at Villa Park as one of the Championship’s most prolific strikers but his time in B6 has, to this point, been a nightmare for all concerned.

He was publicly criticised by Bruce after failing to turn up for training, having claimed the electric gates to his home were broken.

Having spent the second half of last season at Nottingham Forest, he joined A-League club Melbourne City last October and went on to score 14 goals in 17 games Down Under.

Both Villa and Melbourne were keen to extend the deal beyond the January transfer window but were unable to reach a financial agreement, meaning McCormack returned to his parent club, where he is currently dealing with a minor injury.
