Joleon Lescott Rangers deal off as he stays with Aston Villa
Joleon Lescott will not be leaving Villa for Rangers after turning down a deal with the Scottish giants.
The 34-year-old centre-back was last night undergoing a medical in Glasgow ahead of putting pen to paper on a two-year contract, but has now decided not to move north of the border for family reasons.
Lescott joined his boyhood club in a £2million deal from Albion on transfer deadline day last summer but endured a disastrous campaign as Villa were relegated from the Premier League, incurring the wrath of supporters when he posted a picture of a sports car on social media just hours after a 6-0 defeat to Liverpool.
The former Everton and Manchester City defender had been told he could find a new club by boss Roberto Di Matteo and, as part of the deal, Villa would have funded part of his wages during his first year in Scotland.
Di Matteo is eager to add further signings after Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak became the sixth player to join this summer.
Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford remains a long-term target, most likely on loan, though Villa could face competition from a number of other clubs for the 22-year-old's signature.
