The 39-year-old Beijing businessman is due to meet with Football League on Monday, ahead of the deal being given the green light.

Xia, who will replace Randy Lerner as owner, has provided proof he has the funds to both complete the purchase and maintain the running of the club for the next two seasons.

His wealth had initially been called into question after it was revealed his company, the Recon Group, owned just one listed company and not five, as first claimed.

But after scrutinising both Xia's background and business portfolio, the Football League and Premier League are satisfied he he is 'fit and proper' to complete the purchase.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness is expected to take the same role on Villa's new-look board, on which ex-Reading director Chris Samuelson could also feature.

Villa were relegated from the Premier League last season and Xia is expected to give new manager Roberto Di Matteo up to £50million to spend in order to revamp the playing squad.
