The versatile 22-year-old Dutchman has caught Lambert's eye after run-outs in midfield and at right-back after his summer switch from Groningen.

He can offer back-up to Matt Lowton in defence and Lambert believes the Holland Under-21 international can be a real asset at Villa.

He said: "That's the beauty about him, he can play a few positions. He is only a young lad as well, he's got to adapt to certain things but I've been quite pleased with what he's done. In the second half against Liverpool, like everyone else, he grew into the game."

Bacuna is one of six summer signings with Lambert claiming there is unlikely to be any other major incomings ahead of the close of the transfer window at 11pm on Monday.

But the boss insisted his new, young squad do not need a helping hand when it comes to handling the Premier League.

He said: "I don't have to do anything special, you let them go and thrive on it. It's a great league to play in with great atmospheres. I just want them to enjoy the experience."
