Birmingham could hand Albion striker Chris Wood his first Blues start in their first Championship home game of the season against Coventry.

The on-loan forward came off the bench to make his debut in last weekend's opening day defeat at Derby County and is pushing Adam Rooney for the lone striker's berth.

The 19-year-old has been drafted in as Blues continue to miss strikers Marlon King and Nikola Zigic, with knee and groin injuries respectively.

Fellow frontman Cameron Jerome is also still sidelined with a heel problem and could be on the move from Blues, with Bolton closing in on the 24-year-old.

Defender Scott Dann was an unused substitute at Derby but is in contention to play, despite Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly stepping up their bids to prize him away from St Andrew's.

But Blues boss Chris Hughton has been puzzled by speculation that the Gunners are close to signing Dann.

Hughton has denied having any knowledge of an offer.

He said: "I'm not aware of any contact from Arsenal. But whether Scott will be with us after the deadline, I don't know."
