Aston Villa still eyeing further wing targets after agreeing deal for Chelsea star
Unai Emery wants to bolster his attacking options.
Villa could still target another winger this summer despite agreeing a loan deal for Alejandro Garnacho.
The 22-year-old has undergone a medical and his move from Chelsea is on course to be completed on Thursday.
It is understood to include a conditional option to buy, with Garnacho potentially joining Villa on a four-year contract if certain terms are met.
Those terms of the deal are likely to be scrutinised by Uefa, which has strict rules on clubs who trade players in a short space of time.
Villa this week sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for a British record £117million fee, a deal which alleviated much of the immediate pressure on the club with regard to complying with Uefa’s financial rules.
Yet if the governing body were to decide any condition in the Garnacho deal made it “virtually certain” to become a permanent transfer, it would reduce the amount of profit Villa could record on the Rogers sale.
Adding pace in wide areas was a primary concern for Unai Emery this summer and initially the manager’s preference was to bring in two new players, though that was before Villa were forced to rebuild their midfield following the loss of Amadou Onana to injury and sale of Youri Tielemans.
A combined £90m was spent on signing Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes but should finances allow, Villa could yet look to bring in another winger later in the window.
That could well depend on outgoings. Hull City have held talks over a move for Leon Bailey, while Villa will listen to offers for Evann Guessand.
Emery also wants a left-back to replace Lucas Digne, who is joining Paris Saint-Germain, along with a right-back.
