Proud boss Dan McNamara says Wolves Women will head into next weekend’s title six-pointer at Burnley brimming with confidence after putting six past Derby.

Louanne Worsey’s first career hat-trick helped put Wolves on course for a win which kept them just a point behind the Clarets, with a match in hand, heading into the biggest match of the National League Northern Premier season so far.

Charlotte Greengrass and Amber Hughes were also on the mark, as Wolves led 5-0 at half-time at Telford’s SEAH Stadium.

That allowed McNamara to rest players in the second half, with one eye clearly on the clash with Burnley.

He said: “We will be heading up there full of confidence.

“We are going to a place where we should not win. The pressure is not on us to win. Burnley have spent unbelievable amounts of money this year, so they have to win.

“We will go up there and try to cause an upset, as we did a few years ago. We are excited and are looking forward to it.”

The six-goal barrage means Wolves still have a better goal difference than their title rivals and the boss continued: “No-one wants it to go down to goal difference but it has bitten us too many times (in the past). We need to keep being clinical in the right moments.

“In the first half, I thought we were excellent. Derby played a different formation to what we were expecting but the girls adapted and figured it out for themselves.”

Monique Robinson was Albion’s hero after her 93rd minute winner earned a 1-0 win at Halifax.

The midfielder pounced on a loose ball in the box as the Baggies claimed what boss Siobhan Hodgetts-Still believed was a deserved win after back-to-back away defeats.

“That was a much improved showing,” she said. “It was needed within the squad, but I thought the performance from the girls and the effort was tremendous.

“You saw what it meant to the players and staff.”

Sporting Khalsa boss Juan Dopiaza felt Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Hull City summed up their season after they failed to make the most of their chances.

Megan Cann fired Khalsa into an early lead but the home side hit back to claim a win which leaves Khalsa bottom of the table.

“In terms of work ethic, we could not ask for more,” said Dopiaza. “But in terms of quality in the final third, I think that was the big difference.

“That sums up our season. We have created the chances but the main difference has been our inability to finish the play. Then we get punished for our mistakes.”

Stourbridge are just one point from safety in the Midlands Division after a hat-trick from Daisy Clements helped them beat Lincoln United 4-0.

Kidderminster Harriers are the team looking nervously over their shoulders at their near neighbours, following a 3-0 home defeat to Barnsley.

Tash Baptiste hit two as Lye Town won 4-0 at Solihull to move five points clear at the top of the West Midlands League.

Brit Lote and Macy Fox were also on target for the Lye. Hednesford Town were beaten 1-0 at Port Vale.

Division One North leaders Lichfield City edged past Chasetown 2-1, while Walsall claimed a 2-0 victory at home to Telford Town. Halesowen Town picked up a morale-boosting 5-1 win at Kingfisher FC in Division One South.
