Walsall registered their first win of 2026 and ended a run of four successive defeats across all competitions in what was Sadler's 150th game in charge of the club.

Priestley Farquharson opened the scoring when he emerged from the chaos inside the box to head Evan Weir's corner inside the near post.

Kanu doubled the Saddlers' lead on the stroke of half-time when he latched on to a through ball by Alex Pattison, before rounding Jack Barrett and rolling a calm finish into the net.

It was announced this week that Kanu will be staying at Walsall for the rest of the season after his recall period expired along with fellow loanees Myles Roberts and Rico Richards.

The Charlton Athletic loan striker celebrated by extending his season tally to 14 goals in all competitions and Sadler is pleased that he will be staying on board.

"It does feel like a new signing because for the best will in the world, when I answer questions on Daniel, we don't know," boss Sadler admitted.
